What is it like to be a Rotarian at RCPL

Joining Rotary Club can be an exciting way to be a part of a large, international group. You do need to think about whether or not you can truly make the commitment, however. Rotary members are required to attend at least half of the meetings for each six months of the calendar year.

At the Rotary Club of Port Louis, we meet over lunch every Wednesday of the week as from 12:15pm till 1:30pm. Each member is assigned every year to one of the four committees of the Club, namely, Community, Vocational, Development and Strategy and Club Services. To take stock of the activities of the committee, the committee members meet once a month, usually in the evening hosted by one of the committee members. The Board of the Club constituting of various nominated officers, also meet similarly once a month in the evening. Members also participate through out the year in club activities and other fellowship events like the Ladies Outings. Members may be asked to train for or participate in a leadership role within our club. Members are also required to help find new members and keep current members active within the group.

Like many groups, Rotary Club asks its members to pay annual dues. Members are expected to pay the club dues on a monthly basis which includes the cost of the lunch, district dues and Rotary International dues. The monthly dues as of July 2015 is Rs. 2,500 per month. This does not include fellowship events, induction dinner and other official ceremonies and activities.
