Friends of Rotary Club of Port Louis
The aim of the appellation, Friend of the Rotary Club of Port Louis, is to provide a means for those, other than current members of the Club, to show their support for or interest in the Club.
There are three categories of potential Friends of RCPL:
-
Former Rotarians whose commitments do not permit them to be active members at the present time,
-
Potential new members with similar constraints. Such Friends of RCPL are equivalent in status to Rotary International's Associate Member category,
-
Those who have never been Rotarians but have close connections with the Club, perhaps already supporters of the Club in sponsoring specific projects.
What being a Friend provides:
-
Involvement with the Club without having to make a commitment to weekly meetings and other functions
-
The option of attending weekly meetings as and when able to do so, advising the Club Secretary at least 24 hours in advance in case of space constraints;
the Club would hope to see Friends at lunch meetings from time to time, -
Receiving the Club Bulletin and information about activities and community and vocational projects,
-
Option of involvement in Club projects,
-
Option of attending the Annual Induction Dinner and participating in outings and other fellowship events.
However, certain privileges are restricted to full members of the Club:
-
Voting on Club matters
-
Receiving The Rotarian magazine (although Friends may opt to pay for a subscription),
-
Attendance at Club Assemblies and national, district and international Rotary functions,
-
Attendance at firesides (unless specifically invited),
-
Wearing the Rotary pin.
Friends provide:
-
A donation of Rs2,500 on an annual basis to the Club Administration account and payment of the set charges for lunches, Induction Dinner or other functions attended,
-
Support projects as and when they can by contributing financially or in kind, or by giving their time to an activity - the Club would hope to see the involvement, in one way or another, of each Friend in at least one project a year.
