Since 10 years RCPL is engaged in providing breakfast to under-privileged children of primary ZEP Schools. Located at the impoverished suburban areas, plagued with social ills, the students come from homes under difficult circumstances. Consequently, absenteeism, drop-out rates are high and children are often undernourished. Led by the ladies of the RCPL, our breakfast programme is directed towards providing nourishing hot meals. The beneficiaries now not only enjoy better health, they are performing better in sports and school activities and the passing rates have markedly improved thus enhancing their self-esteem. Overall the schools too are enjoying a better environment and being recognized for superior performances. Starting with serving 30 students from a single school, the programme now benefits 375 students from 5 schools – 4 in the outskirts of Port Louis and one in the Black River region. Another 122 students from Candos Government School will join the programme as from January 2016. Simultaneously, together with the Rotaract Club of Port Louis, RCPL will extend the programme to 50 pre-primary school children from the Point Aux Sables Government School.
