In your laughter and in your plays

Remember only that I sang when dry leaves were shed and the days were gray.

Over parched grass and in empty forest,

Unloved and ignored,

I sang when dry leaves were shed and the days were gray.

Holding the lamp I walked the nights by you,

Oh, the travelers of the day

Now that I sail off on a tattered boat at the call of the shore across the bay

Remember only that I sang when dry leaves were shed and the days were gray.
